Blue LVL - (July 7-12h) - “A refreshing look at the Second Greatest Commandment”

36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40

This week is all about your neighbors - your literal neighbors. We all have them whether we live in an apartment complex or in the hills of Montana. How do you love them? That’s the challenge; plan and execute it. Figure out a way to love them and serve them this week. Do it anonymously or ask them how you can help them. It's up to you and you can be original or follow the example given.

Commit: Know that this challenge is going to take time and maybe even some money. Commit to spending time in prayer to figure out how you could love your neighbors this week and the weeks to come. What are their needs, are all the same, what can you offer?

Pray: That you have a heart for your neighbors. Ask God to give you insight into how to love those God has placed to live next to you. What an amazing bond that is - being neighbors! Once you have their names, pray for them by name for the rest of the week.

Read: Romans 13: 8-14, Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 5:1-16, John 5:19, John 4:1-42

The Goal: Is to live out the call God has given us. As followers of Christ we desire to become more like him and love others. Loving our neighbor (not just literal) is the second greatest commandment. Most of us don’t even know all of our literal neighbor’s names. How is that love? Our goal this week is to love through action and heart.

Example: Everyone knows what their own favorite drink is, but do you know your neighbors? Could that be part of loving them?
Go house to house one evening knocking on everyone’s door. When they answer the door, introduce yourself, get their name and tell them that you are doing a survey of the neighbor hood. Find out what their favorite beverage is and then thank them for their time. On another day get everyone their favorite drink and attach a note to it saying “thanks for participating.” You can either drop it off on their door step or hand it to them in person. Imagine their surprise!
