Creation Vs. Evolution

Saturday, July 26, 2008

Guest Speaker Bill Morgan will be speaking for the Teens of TerraNova on Aug. 3rd in both the 9:30 and 11am services. He will show us both sides of the argument and let us know why he believes that Creation is better science than Evolution.

This is a great Sunday to bring a friend that has questions in the Science arena.

Here is Bill's story:
On important issues, never believe anything because someone told you to believe it. Only believe something you hear after you test it, and were open-minded enough to hear other ideas.

I was raised going to church, and at the age of 14, my respected Biology teacher taught the class that the Theory of Evolution was true. I believed him without any question. At the age of 26, I got a few facts on Creation, then did further investigation, and now I am convinced Creation is better science than the Theory of Evolution.

What ever you decide to believe on the subject of Creation Vs. Evolution, I hope you base your belief upon facts and observation.

C LVL - (July 21-26th) - “Take Your Mind For A Swim / Rinse and Repeat”

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2

The greatest single way to increase your faith is to get to know the Father. What better way to do that then spend time with Him reading his Word. The Bible is an intimate look at the heart of the Father through historical stories and parables. The Bible is not a cave full of gems, but the largest gem ever discovered. Unearth it from your shelf and dig in. Spiritual Living books are also a great way to grow your faith as people have spent countless hours scouring the Bible to get answers about specific topics you may be struggling with or wanting to grow in. Discover more about God and his ways - and you will only become more clear about this crazy thing we call LIFE!

Commit: To dedicating at least an hour a day. You have two options - Read 3 books of the Bible this week or read a chapter a day and pick up a Christian Book.

Pray: That you’ll put aside any distractions and stay to your commitment. Pray that your mind will be open and you will understand what God has put before you. Pray that you’ll enjoy this challenge and that it will change your life by becoming a daily occurrence.

Read: For at least an hour a day. See the list of suggestions below. READ: Psalm 119, Col. 3:16, John 1:1-18

The Goal: To discover the power of reading the Word of God. It is powerful (Heb. 4:12-13) and needed in your everyday life. As leaders we want to see you actively pursuing and hungry for God’s word.

Suggestions: Velvet Elvis - Repainting the Christian Faith, by Rob Bell Battlefield of the Mind, by Joyce Meyers How People Grow, by Henry Cloud The Shack, by William Young The Way of the Wild Heart, by John Eldredge (for men) Captivating, by John Eldredge (for women) Case for Christ, by Lee Strobel Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ, by John Piper
Books of the Bible: Jonah, John, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, James
*look up these books on Amazon to see what most interests you.

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' Matthew 4:4 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22

Questions: Unwed pregnacies and the Will of God

Saturday, July 12, 2008

We asked the students to write down any questions they had in their heads about God and faith. One student wrote:
“IF A BABY IS MADE THROUGH AN UNMARRIED COUPLE, IS IT STILL IN GOD’S PLAN BECAUSE GOD’S PLAN WASN’T TO HAVE PREMARITAL SEX, BUT THE BIBLE SAYS HE KNOWS ALL OF US BEFORE WE ARE BORN…SO WAS THE PREMARITAL SEX PLANNED BY GOD?”

I might be missing the point of the question, but what I'm hearing is "Is this child important in the eyes of God or is this child an embarrassment to God." I like stories and I think they are powerful, the Bible is a collection of such powerful stories. To answer this question I would like all to watch the movie BELLA. I think you'll find the answer there. If not, leave a comment and I'll explain further. If you still want a straight forward answer to the student's questions, then highlight the text below:
God foreknew how this child was going to be born. God has two wills - his perfect will of design and the will that he allows and works within a broken world (while still maintaining his goodness and holiness). God is faithful and good and all life is valuable and precious to God. Know that God's will is always that we be married before we have sex.

Blue LVL - (July 7-12h) - “A refreshing look at the Second Greatest Commandment”

36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40

This week is all about your neighbors - your literal neighbors. We all have them whether we live in an apartment complex or in the hills of Montana. How do you love them? That’s the challenge; plan and execute it. Figure out a way to love them and serve them this week. Do it anonymously or ask them how you can help them. It's up to you and you can be original or follow the example given.

Commit: Know that this challenge is going to take time and maybe even some money. Commit to spending time in prayer to figure out how you could love your neighbors this week and the weeks to come. What are their needs, are all the same, what can you offer?

Pray: That you have a heart for your neighbors. Ask God to give you insight into how to love those God has placed to live next to you. What an amazing bond that is - being neighbors! Once you have their names, pray for them by name for the rest of the week.

Read: Romans 13: 8-14, Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 5:1-16, John 5:19, John 4:1-42

The Goal: Is to live out the call God has given us. As followers of Christ we desire to become more like him and love others. Loving our neighbor (not just literal) is the second greatest commandment. Most of us don’t even know all of our literal neighbor’s names. How is that love? Our goal this week is to love through action and heart.

Example: Everyone knows what their own favorite drink is, but do you know your neighbors? Could that be part of loving them?
Go house to house one evening knocking on everyone’s door. When they answer the door, introduce yourself, get their name and tell them that you are doing a survey of the neighbor hood. Find out what their favorite beverage is and then thank them for their time. On another day get everyone their favorite drink and attach a note to it saying “thanks for participating.” You can either drop it off on their door step or hand it to them in person. Imagine their surprise!
