Last week we unleashed the best fundraiser in Western Civilization history. Just a reminder that the order forms and money are due on Sunday Nov. 30th. and the shirts will be delivered December 14th (Sun), just in time for Christmas.

What is this fundraiser you say? Maybe you missed our explanation. Here is a quick run down:

Let me explain how it works: Your student (or maybe you are the student) will get an order form (think girl scout cookies) and will presale fathom shirts and collect the money. At the due date (the current due date is set for Nov. 30th) the students will turn in the money and we will then print the shirts, sort them and return them to you on Dec. 14th for your student (or yourself) to redistribute to their clients.

Shirts are $23.20 + Tax ($25) and every shirt sold puts $10 torwards winter camp (or something else within the church like summer camp). You will get the check the day the shirts are delivered so you will have payment in plan. For example, if you student sells 40 shirts total, that is $400 raised.

In order to provide the students with the best resources, we provide them with receipts, envelopes and folders and order forms along with information on "How to sell fathom thirty-three." Its a complete package that all you have to do is introduce and we can be there to explain the process to the kids. Both the Jr. High and High school groups will be participating in this fundraiser as it is the perfect timing for such an event right before Christmas.

If the question pops up - can my group do this, the answer is yes. We are currently looking to branch this out to other churches and groups that have a need to raise capital.

WINTER X: FILTER

I know everyone is dying to know how we could possibly have a greater winter camp than last year. Well, we can't promise a blizzard and multiple power outages, but we think this year is going to surpass anything you've ever known.

So get ready, because we are going back up to June MTN on January 1-4th. Keep your party hat on and stay up all night and then sleep on the ride up!

The cost looks like it will be $280 (NEW LOWER PRICE) plus an number combinations of lift tickets. If you want to ride one day or two or none - its up to you. If you are between 13-18 then a one day lift ticket will run you $43 and a 2day lift ticket will be $92. Anyone older than that is going to have to ask about the other prices.

We have 26 spots left. So get in your $150 deposit asap. ALL MONEY IS DUE DECEMBER 14TH. If you sign up after Dec. 14th, there will be no price break as we are looking into ways to lower the cost (see below). Deposits are not refundable, depending on circumstances they can be transferable.

One way to lower the cost of the trip is if we find two vans that hold 10-12 people. Right now we have budgeted renting two vans apart from our own church van. Any avoidance of rentals will save us some money. People, put out your van feelers!

Profile Pic night is where we gather all your friends, six photographers and six photo stations and we rotate through different photo sessions! This is all for you to "take home" with you because your social network deserves your best! No more silly pictures of you holding your camera phone in the mirror taking a shot of yourself that looks like you haven't a friend in the world and you just woke up. This is the real deal, high quality, wardrobe wearing event that people will be talking about for years.

The background/stations will include a western theme, industrial shot, mug shot, photo booth, nature scene and Christmas (for grandma). This will be held at the Hub (7 Whatney, Irvine) on Oct. 16th from 7-9pm. Some kind of snacks will be served. Please bring costumes and props to share! Thanks MTV Costume Shop for your donations!

Hey gang. Invite all friends and family to this one.

At 9am on Saturday the 20th we are going to meet up with some Park Rangers and volunteers at Holy Jim road off of Trabuco Canyon Road. On this day, groups are going to be working in wilderness areas cleaning out riverbeds and storm drain areas, getting the trash out before the 1st rains send it floating down stream to mess up our beaches and ocean. People all over the county are mobilizing to clean up Orange County!!!! This is a great way to represent the heart of our Savior to people along side of us.


So the details:

When: Sept. 20th
Time: 9a-12
Where: The start of Holy Jim road off of Trabuco Canyon.
What to bring: Close toed shoes, possibly gloves and sunscreen and water.
Why: Because we are managers of the earth that God gave us.

LVL Finalle - (Sept. 1st-6th) - “SURGE/Manage”


“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1 Cor. 9:24-27

This marks the last challenge for the Summer, so don’t let it just fizzle out, but surge into the new school year with a passion for God and his ways. You have a new schedule, new classes and a new way of life to adjust to but don’t let that get you distracted. This week make sure to get outside and get some exercise. Get up that heart rate! Manage your body and the earth that God has put us in charge of.

Commit: We are told that to stay in shape we are to be active 30 minutes a day. Get outside at least three times this week for an hour to sweat and exercise. Also commit to taking steps to take care of the Earth that God has placed us over. We cannot be ignorant any longer! http://reusablebags.com/

Pray: Pray that you’d feel his presence and blessing in your life as you are running around. Pray that as you train your body you’ll see the work that is necessary to train your spiritual life as well.

The Goal: To see how important it is for us to train/fight for what we want. We need to train spiritually like athletes but if we can’t understand physical training how are we going to understand spiritual training. Spend time with God outside to see what he is trying to tell you. Take an interest in the earth and your impact upon it!

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Col. 2:6-8 and 4:3

In this day and age we are told that its all about stuff. Something new and shiny will make us happy and fill our void. As believers we know that only God can fill our void, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t fall into this deceptive philosophy. This week take inventory of all your stuff. Be thankful for it and check yourself to see if your treasure is really in heaven. Remember that in every situation we are to be thankful.

Commit: Going over the list on the back and taking inventory of your stuff. Be thankful for what you have as you take stock. When you find yourself wanting this week, remember God has provided.

Pray: That you’d be overwhelmed with what God has done for you. Pray that you’d feel his presence and blessing in your life. Pray that you’d have gratitude for everything you have.
Read: Matthew 6:19-17, 7:24-27, Luke 3:10-14, Hebrews 12:28 and Colossians 3:1-17

The Goal: To increase our gratitude and thankfulness. To increase our understanding of God’s love for us and our ability to serve others.

EXTRA: Sleep outside; Figure out how many days of food you have stored up at your house. Prepare a survival kit and construct a plan for the family in case of a disaster. Give away or sell stuff you don’t need as you are taking inventory.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Phil. 4:8-9

Like with food, whatever we put in our body (whether by digestion or sense absorption), affects us. This is a week of living pure from distractions by replacing the distractions with things of Holy intent. This isn’t just about not doing things, but what you do to replace them. Some of you remember why camp was so good - you were in a community of friends talking and thinking of God in a place that was free from distractions. Remember!!! Please read 1 Thessalonians 5:14-24 this week.

Commit: To tossing the routine of checking your phone every 5 minutes and sitting in front of the TV for comfort (etc). Commit to abstaining from the things on the “distraction” list and replace the time you would normally give to those distractions with something that will bring positive results.

Pray: That you’ll see how certain things are affecting you life. Pray that you’ll be released from these “vices” and given over to habits and practices that enlarge your heart and strengthen your mind to do the Lord’s will.

Community: This works best when in community, because we were designed for it. When abstaining from something, do the alternative with friends or family. Its more fun that way.

The Goal: To discover the power of living a life with the soul purpose of putting God first and doing his Will. The goal is to detox from the influences we have given our minds and lives over to.

Guest Speaker Bill Morgan will be speaking for the Teens of TerraNova on Aug. 3rd in both the 9:30 and 11am services. He will show us both sides of the argument and let us know why he believes that Creation is better science than Evolution.

This is a great Sunday to bring a friend that has questions in the Science arena.

Here is Bill's story:
On important issues, never believe anything because someone told you to believe it. Only believe something you hear after you test it, and were open-minded enough to hear other ideas.

I was raised going to church, and at the age of 14, my respected Biology teacher taught the class that the Theory of Evolution was true. I believed him without any question. At the age of 26, I got a few facts on Creation, then did further investigation, and now I am convinced Creation is better science than the Theory of Evolution.

What ever you decide to believe on the subject of Creation Vs. Evolution, I hope you base your belief upon facts and observation.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2

The greatest single way to increase your faith is to get to know the Father. What better way to do that then spend time with Him reading his Word. The Bible is an intimate look at the heart of the Father through historical stories and parables. The Bible is not a cave full of gems, but the largest gem ever discovered. Unearth it from your shelf and dig in. Spiritual Living books are also a great way to grow your faith as people have spent countless hours scouring the Bible to get answers about specific topics you may be struggling with or wanting to grow in. Discover more about God and his ways - and you will only become more clear about this crazy thing we call LIFE!

Commit: To dedicating at least an hour a day. You have two options - Read 3 books of the Bible this week or read a chapter a day and pick up a Christian Book.

Pray: That you’ll put aside any distractions and stay to your commitment. Pray that your mind will be open and you will understand what God has put before you. Pray that you’ll enjoy this challenge and that it will change your life by becoming a daily occurrence.

Read: For at least an hour a day. See the list of suggestions below. READ: Psalm 119, Col. 3:16, John 1:1-18

The Goal: To discover the power of reading the Word of God. It is powerful (Heb. 4:12-13) and needed in your everyday life. As leaders we want to see you actively pursuing and hungry for God’s word.

We asked the students to write down any questions they had in their heads about God and faith. One student wrote:
“IF A BABY IS MADE THROUGH AN UNMARRIED COUPLE, IS IT STILL IN GOD’S PLAN BECAUSE GOD’S PLAN WASN’T TO HAVE PREMARITAL SEX, BUT THE BIBLE SAYS HE KNOWS ALL OF US BEFORE WE ARE BORN…SO WAS THE PREMARITAL SEX PLANNED BY GOD?”

I might be missing the point of the question, but what I'm hearing is "Is this child important in the eyes of God or is this child an embarrassment to God." I like stories and I think they are powerful, the Bible is a collection of such powerful stories. To answer this question I would like all to watch the movie BELLA. I think you'll find the answer there. If not, leave a comment and I'll explain further. If you still want a straight forward answer to the student's questions, then highlight the text below:
God foreknew how this child was going to be born. God has two wills - his perfect will of design and the will that he allows and works within a broken world (while still maintaining his goodness and holiness). God is faithful and good and all life is valuable and precious to God. Know that God's will is always that we be married before we have sex.

Blue LVL - (July 7-12h) - “A refreshing look at the Second Greatest Commandment”


36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40

This week is all about your neighbors - your literal neighbors. We all have them whether we live in an apartment complex or in the hills of Montana. How do you love them? That’s the challenge; plan and execute it. Figure out a way to love them and serve them this week. Do it anonymously or ask them how you can help them. It's up to you and you can be original or follow the example given.

Commit: Know that this challenge is going to take time and maybe even some money. Commit to spending time in prayer to figure out how you could love your neighbors this week and the weeks to come. What are their needs, are all the same, what can you offer?

Pray: That you have a heart for your neighbors. Ask God to give you insight into how to love those God has placed to live next to you. What an amazing bond that is - being neighbors! Once you have their names, pray for them by name for the rest of the week.

Read: Romans 13: 8-14, Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 5:1-16, John 5:19, John 4:1-42

The Goal: Is to live out the call God has given us. As followers of Christ we desire to become more like him and love others. Loving our neighbor (not just literal) is the second greatest commandment. Most of us don’t even know all of our literal neighbor’s names. How is that love? Our goal this week is to love through action and heart.

Example: Everyone knows what their own favorite drink is, but do you know your neighbors? Could that be part of loving them?
Go house to house one evening knocking on everyone’s door. When they answer the door, introduce yourself, get their name and tell them that you are doing a survey of the neighbor hood. Find out what their favorite beverage is and then thank them for their time. On another day get everyone their favorite drink and attach a note to it saying “thanks for participating.” You can either drop it off on their door step or hand it to them in person. Imagine their surprise!

LVL 1 CHALLENGE (June 2nd-7th) - "Bounty Hunter" Sphere of Influence
This week find someone that has moved out of your sphere of influence and reconnect with them. Get together face to face and show them the love of God by being interested in them and what is going on in their life. Seek to understand where they are coming from and ask questions that show genuine interest about how they are doing.

Commit: Commit to following through with this challenge, knowing that effort will be involved. Do it unto the Lord.
Pray: Pray that God would fill you up with the Holy Spirit - that is his love. We cannot fake God’s love and compassion for his people. We can only tap into it. Doing this will make us more like him.
Read: John 21 and Acts 1:1-11

The Goal: Reconnect a relationship with a Godly mindset, expand you sphere of influence. You have been called to show the love of God.

The Top Ten Reasons Creation Is A Better Explanation Than Evolution

1) The Universe...How did it originate?

The First and Second Law of Thermodynamics are great evidence for a supernatural entity. The Universe is composed of matter and energy. Is the Universe eternal? No. The Second Law of Thermodynamics teaches that matter and energy are functions of time and that over time they decay. Since matter and energy are functions of time, they can not be independent of time (eternal).

The overwhelming majority of scientists believe the Universe is not eternal. If it is not eternal, it had a beginning.

Was this beginning natural? the First Law of Thermodynamics says it was not. Matter and energy is neither created nor destroyed according to the First law of Thermodynamics. Thus, an atheistic belief that the Universe "poofed" from nothing by natural means is anti-science. It is blind faith. Laws of Science show that belief in a supernatural entity is the best explanation of how the universe began, since these Laws of Thermodynamics falsify atheistic belief.

2) Life...How Did It Originate?

Atheists think life originated by a natural process of chemicals mixing with energy. They can believe this, but it is anti-science and a blind faith belief. The Law of Biogenesis states life only comes from life. This law is the foundation of Biology. Since life did not originate from non-life by natural means, the best explanation is that it had a supernatural origin.

3) Design. A simple definition of design is something that was planned for.

The human body has 60,000 miles of blood vessels in it. The smallest blood vessels are so small, that only one red blood cell at a time can pass through it - after its nucleus has fallen off! Red blood cells lose their nuclei so that they can be small enough to pass through your tiniest capillaries. Piping systems do not happen by chance. Especially ones that are this complex.

4) Information.

You started out as one tiny fertilized egg. Just one cell. Today you are 75 trillion cells. But you are not the same cell over and over and over again. You started as one cell, but now you have skin cells, hair cells, muscle cells, bone cells, nerve cells, blood cells etc! You have over 200 different cells in your body! One cell in your body is in your digestive tract and all it appears to do is to make mucus! Isn't that cool?

And not only do you have all of these cells.....they are in the right place. You don't have bones cells on your eye ball, you don't hair cells in your spine. You are a 75 trillion piece jig saw puzzle with all the pieces in the right place. Jig saw puzzles don't get put together by chance. Do you think you did?

Think. You started out as one cell, but in that cell you contained all the information required to make more cells and produce a living organism with 75 trillion cells, over 200 different types of cells and 60,000 miles of blood vessels.

Information comes from an information giver. Not from nothing, nor by chance.

5) Systems.

Suppose you evolved 60,000 miles of blood vessels by chance. Will it do you any good? No. You need blood, and a heart.

Suppose you evolved blood and a heart and 60,000 miles of blood vessels by chance. Will it do you any good? No. You need a nervous system, a skeletal system, a digestive system, a respiratory system etc. But all of those systems are useless without the circulatory system!

Creation believes in instant people. You can't wait around for a liver to evolve. Creation believes a supernatural entity instantly made humans with functioning hearts, livers, lungs, brains, kidneys, spleens, intestines etc. This makes sense because they all need each other to function and to keep the organism alive.

6) Sex.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? Two chickens, a functional male and functional female (please see chicken and egg article on this web site). For the many animals that reproduce by sexual reproduction, they need male equipment in part of the population and female equipment in the other part of the population. Both systems are very complex and very unique. Once again, creationists believe in "instant people." And that includes instant males and instant females.

My dad is my favorite philosopher. He once said, "You know why Adam and Eve had to be adults? Because human babies are so helpless!" great point dad!

7) Living Evidence.

If the theory of evolution occurred, there had to be transitional forms. These transitional forms were the animals that were the "links" between reptiles and birds, ape-men and humans etc. There would have had to be millions of these transitional forms! But not one is alive today. Why not? Either they never existed or they did exist and all vanished. If they do exist today where are they? If they don't exist today, that is powerful evidence for Creation.

If the theory of evolution is true, this should be true. You have an ape in a cage at a zoo. You pay 50 bucks to look at the ape. If the theory of evolution is true, there should be living organisms that get a 25 dollar discount because the ape in the cage is a close relative.

8) Fossil Evidence.

There are trillions of fossils. yet, in my opinion (trying to be fair here) no transitional forms. evolutionists will claim there are many, but upon close scrutiny, each one can easily be classified as belonging to animals alive today, or an organism that is not transitional, but simply extinct (i.e. trilobites or dinosaurs).

If the theory of evolution is true, there should be millions of transitional forms. Lets suppose the theory of evolution is true. Evolutionists believe reptiles are ancestral to birds. The fossil record should have thousands of fossils of half legs/half wings; half scales half feathers; half reptile feet/half bird feet etc. Yet none of these clear transitional fossils exist. many quotes by Evolutionists support this claim.

9) Genetics and Biochemistry.

To quote my daughter when she was three and talking to a high school girl: "Don't forget, crows make crows."

She is right, and genetics supports her contention. Crow DNA can only make a crow. If you mutate it, you might get a goofy crow, or a dead crow, or an unchanged crow, but you won't get a different animal. Mutations make lung cancer, they don't make lungs.

10) The Anthropic Principle.

The earth has the proper temperature, the proper gravity, the proper amount of oxygen, the proper mass ratio of the electron and proton, the proper charge between electrons and protons etc. etc. etc.

The odds of an average protein getting the proper sequence by chance is enormous. Let's look at the odds.

Imagine an alphabet with 20 letters. Suppose I made a word from this alphabet that was 400 letters long, and asked you to guess the sequence of letters that make up the word. What would be the odds that you would guess it by chance? The odds would be one to 20 times 20 times 20 times 20......400 times! It would be 1 to 20 to the 400th power. This is the same as one to ten to the 520th power. That is a 1 followed by 520 zeros. The odds are greater that you would win California super lotto 500 times in a row than one protein sequence occurring by chance. We are not even talking about a cell, much less an organ, much less a human body.

In statistics, something that is 10 to the 50th is considered impossible. Thus one protein by chance is highly impossible.

Think of this for a second. If the odds against a protein sequence happening by chance is 10 to the 520th power, the odds that it happened by design is the inverse, 10 to the 520th power in favor of it. Those odds make design infinitely more logical statistically than chance.

Thursday Nights as you have known them are changing. I introduce to you:

The Thursday Night Small Group Truth Project Experiment

We have heard the voice of the people as they have been chanting for a deeper small group format based on discussions about following God and growing in relationships. Coming up is a 12 week study as we are closing down the “typical” Thursday night programing. This experiment will be limited to 20 people and will be hosted at Mike Bowe’s house. It will run from 7-9p and will be a closed group (please bring friends Sundays and to other activities we have outside of this time). The students must sign up and commit themselves to all 12 weeks - to coming, participating and showing up on time. This time will be about developing relationships and growing deeper in our faith. This will not be a time of entertainment but we do promise it will be fun and challenging. We, as leaders, are also promising to pray for each teenager everyday for the duration of the small group. The Truth Project begins February 28th so please turn in the application as soon as possible to guarantee your spot in the Truth Project.

The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group study designed to equip believers with a comprehensive biblical worldview. Practically and personally, participants will be reintroduced to the truth claims of God. Twelve one-hour lessons discuss in detail God’s design for living out the Christian worldview in daily life. Most importantly, it addresses the need to marry our actions to our core beliefs. What this curriculum does is nothing short of transformational.

Truth Project Begins Feb. 28th and meets every Thursday until May 29th. We will not be meeting March 27th and April 10th because of Easter Vacations.

The small group starts at 7pm sharp and will end right at 9pm. Do not be late!
